I am excited to be joining Dr. Kemp and the wonderful staff at Darrel Kemp Orthodontics. I love how an improvement in a smile can lead a person to become more confident, and I am fortunate to be able to see this change in my patients every day. I feel so privileged to be in a career I love and am happy to go to work each day, hoping to make a difference in someone’s life.
Education and Continuing Education
My 14 years of post-secondary education has taken me back and forth between Ontario and Alberta. I attended McMaster University and completed my Bachelor of Science (honours biochemistry) and Master of Science (medical sciences) degrees. After this I attended the University of Western Ontario, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Then I moved to Edmonton to pursue a one-year general practice residency at the University of Alberta, and then returned to Hamilton to work in private practice. Finally, I attended the University of Alberta for another three years of training to become a specialist in orthodontics and am very excited to permanently call Alberta home.
I am currently an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta and teach undergraduate students enrolled in the dental program. I am also a member of a number of local and international study groups that keep me up to date in orthodontics and dentistry.
Outside the Office
My wife Janice and I have always wanted a big family, since each of us grew up in full houses. We started our family four years ago and have three very energetic (and loud) children: Keegan, Alexa, and Caleb. Keegan is our little math professor and loves everything and anything to do with numbers. Alexa is already a fashionista who picks out her outfits with as much pink or purple as she can find. And Caleb is just our happy little guy, always smiling and laughing — just happy to get any attention he can get! We look forward to setting down roots here and are excited to experience the many outdoor activities and culinary treats this city has to offer.
I am a huge fan of sports. I love playing volleyball and enjoy snowboarding, basketball, and tennis. I am a disaster on the golf course but would love to get better. I enjoy watching sports and am always keeping up with all the professional sports on TV.
Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. I look forward to getting to know you and providing exceptional personal care and attention for my patients at every visit.
